i realised that i love 70s and 80s movies so much because they’re made with such love and craftsmanship and there will never be a time when we recreate that again. capitalism has made companies make movies for money, not because they love movies. i want more labyrinths, more bttfs, more star wars originals, more alien 1979s.

Y’all respectfully don’t mind what this person is saying, please keep posting all your interpretations even if this one person isn’t having fun cause I for one quite enjoy them. I like reading them even if people might see them as ‘mundane’ or ‘basic’ takes because they encourage us to use critical thinking and look deeper at the characters within the media we consume. Seeing tons of interpretations can help me personally think deeper about the media and forces me to determine what my own opinions are, whether from agreeing or disagreeing. Also people trying to say their interpretations is them trying to demonstrate in their own lives the whole point of this movie, like even if people do happen to wrongly label it ‘unpopular opinion’, like literally who cares, people may be running in different sides of the fandom which may have differing opinions on things so to this person they may be under the impression that this is unpopular, which is exactly why we should encourage them to speak up when they have a different opinion because speaking your mind when people hate on you for doing so or for having thoughts on things that may differ from the people around you is an important thing, so like everyone, especially the young adults, please keep giving your interpretations and don’t feel discouraged bout it 🫶
And just so homie can maybe have a little more fun in this fandom and stop *checks notes* ‘gatekeeping interpreting media one consumes from teenagers’ because they *checks notes again* ‘haven’t had enough experience interpreting media so they therefore “don’t understand” how to properly interpret media they consume and therefore should stop trying instead of practicing to get better at it’, I’ll give them one of the ‘character x is misunderstood’ posts based on what they in the tags outlined and determined to be ‘unpopular’ enough for an interpretation.
Despite what the fandom things, Neil’s father was a relatively good father, the best parent out of all the poet’s parents, but he had flaws that caused his downfall. Neil’s father actually cared about his son, but he had faulty ideas because he was failed by the same systems that oppress Neil so he didn’t realize in trying to protect Neil from those systems, he was suppressing and in a way killing his son. Mr. Perry’s own traumas affect his relationship with his son and his decisions he makes in the movie, even if Neil never could see it in that light because he was being taught different than his father.
His father grew up in an environment where he was made to believe that the only way to protect his son and make sure he lived life to the fullest was by trying to help him succeed in the world they were in rather than try to change the world to fit Neil’s needs. His way of showing he loved his son, although we know it was misguided, was by trying to help his son succeed so he doesn’t have to face difficult hardships in life. Mr. Perry likely would have had to live during the Great Depression, watching people struggle to get by, knowing firsthand what it was like and not wanting that life for Neil. He tells Neil that he had opportunities his father didn’t, as we know his father likely lived through this difficult economic time in America followed by likely being affected by World War 2, whether through enlisting or through the draft. Mr. Perry, through pushing Neil into medicine, was trying to open up opportunities for Neil so he wouldn’t feel stuck like those people Mr. Perry had to watch live through these difficult times in history, and the dramatic irony is that through trying to make Neil not feel stuck in the future, he only made Neil feel more stuck now because Neil constantly felt micromanaged and that his desires were plowed over in favor of what his father thinks is best for a future Neil that we know will never exist. Everyone thinks Mr. Perry is too strict for the sake of being strict or is trying to live through Neil, but it’s clear he is a man driven by fear and beliefs stemming from his own trauma of growing up in these flawed systems, trying to make sure his son has a good life. The tragedy comes in when in trying to make sure his son has a good life, he is unknowingly killing his own son.
That is also why he tells keating in that deleted scene that he blames him, because he truly believed he was giving his son the best life his son could get in the world they were in, but then his son had this teacher who encouraged him to pursue a risky career that would cause him to live a tricky life barely getting by if getting by at all, which his son threw away the whole ‘safe’ future Mr. Perry had laid out for him in order to follow this risky barely thought out plan, and when Mr. Perry tries to push his son away from this unsafe and unsuccessful life, his son is so overdriven by emotions that he kills himself.
He didn’t believe the world could be changed and he believed his son trying would only result in him being crushed so he was trying to protect him, but unknowingly was only shutting his son out and causing his son to feel unloved and unheard. This doesn’t make him a bad person or a bad father, but merely a caring father who was a victim of the world he lived in misguidedly trying to force his son to adhere to the system against what his son needed, forcing his son to feel the only way out to be death as his father couldn’t listen due to his own fears. He was a loving father with a fatal flaw that caused not only his downfall but the downfall of those around him too. This does not make Mr. Perry inherently bad as we know he is just as much a victim as those who were hurt by his actions, but that does not mean he was right in his actions.
This story shows us despite our initial beliefs, perhaps adults don’t always know better than children, and it is through listening and open dialogue between the two that these systems work best. Maybe we should sit and think deeply about this before we tell children online to shut up because them having opinions on a topic only results in ‘mundane takes’, just some food for thought, ya know
sometimes i have fun, sometimes i see a post of someone claiming to have an unpopular opinion and then saying the most mundane shit about people "not understanding x character" and i remember this fandom is full of Literal Children
#has anyone considered that none of you understand anything because you're teenagers and you know nothing about anything#an unpopular opinion is saying mr perry is a good dad#an unpopular opinion is not just another socially acceptable interpretation#and i know someone is gonna say “the characters are teenagers so the fans should also be teenagers!” and. that's not what i mean.#what i mean is teenagers don't understand what goes into storytelling or filmmaking or character studies or analysis and it's really obviou#anyway i'm looking to start fights lowkey#< prev tags#ok homie so here is you Mr. Perry isn’t a bad dad ‘good character take’#and I don’t believe the fans should be teenagers because the characters are teenagers#I believe the fans should include teenagers because the messages can relate to their lives just as well as adults; if not more so#and the lessons they learn from analysizing this movie can help them become better adults who are not bitter cynics angry at the world#so they feel the need to go online and make safe spaces unwelcoming for the sake of ‘wanting to start fights’#because they can learn that mature adults don’t pick fights but they know how to fight them should the need arise#because the only way to maintain safe spaces is making sure people who are coming genuinely and wanting to participate can even if they#aren’t ‘good at it’ because it’s the trying that matter not the result cause that’s how community works#and as for your ‘teenagers can’t do character analyses well’ like you do know there is no good or bad; it’s a skill honed like any other#through practice; hence why we spent English classes learning how and honing these skills; so it’s not about age it’s about doing it enough#that you can learn to be better at it so telling them not to do it is hindering them from ever being able to dissect things in nuanced ways#like I would have half a million basic takes of people learning how to look at their media critically than have only a handful of people#brave enough to give an opinion because they learned how to ‘truly give takes’ cause that notion is honestly bullshit#don’t figure you will actually read everything I say but hey I said it and maybe someone will read it and feel better about giving their#takes even if they don’t have a PhD in English or a film degree or whatever#lowkey elitists have no place in this fandom cause what do you mean; we must ALL seize the day and that is done through consuming poetry#and living life and pursuing the arts even if that just means getting together with your friends and reading poetry in a circle like silly#the whole point of this movie is that art is for everyone so trying to gatekeep it in this specific fandom is absolutely wild#dead poets society#dps#dps fandom#dead poets fandom

RWRB 1 (because we can say that now, ahh! 🤭) shot June-August 2022. They filmed reshoots in January 2023.
one of my favourite: nick’s hair looks so sksksjsn good unghhhh moments 💗
Reshoots were done in-part because Miguel was recast, and also because Matthew wanted additional footage for some scenes, which isn’t uncommon.
It was this list of scenes in which Nick wears a wig - because he’s filming another project - that inspired this post, and then I was also re-reading some old interviews, and I wanted to put them all in one place!
Nick wears a wig during the reshoots because he was filming Mary & George (He shot Bottoms > RWRB > TIOY > M&G with very few breaks, if any. TIOY wrapped in December 2022, M&G began shooting in January 2023, and the reshoots for RWRB were also in January 2023.)

If there’s a silly!weird thing to know about me when it comes to movies and shows I love, it’s that I will spot an inconsistency like a wig/sudden hair change (hello twilight saga wig fiasco, it’s been over 15 years and I still know all the lore, and think about those fuck ass wigs every time I rewatch those addictive movies 🤪).
Nick wears a wig for RWRB reshoots during these scenes:

The television broadcast on the balcony.
Henry and Alex see each other for the first time during the receiving line.
Matthew reveals that their first meeting on-screen was originally going to be in front of the cake, before he realized the audience would need more context.
"The initial meeting on screen was when they met up in front of the cake but I realized watching the film that I needed to introduce and create a sense of animosity between them earlier and so that's how the receiving line scene came about," shares Matthew. These additional scenes were then completed in January 2023.
The receiving line scene is also a wonderful example of the wildness Taylor brings to the screen as Alex, something that Matthew says he never needed to coach Taylor on.

Henry on the couch during NYE.

Also again briefly while looking sad after Alex/girls kiss during NYE.
Matthew Lopez: It was a hard-won scene. We actually filmed it in two sections, six months apart. We got all of the scene work and the beats down, and we got what we thought was sufficient party atmosphere beats. And we started to cut the film together, and I realized we just didn’t have enough. And so, we went back in January for a few days of reshoots on a couple of other things, and I got them to rebuild part of the set for me. And we brought in just a bunch of people, and we just had a big party and shot it.
That was one of the great lessons for me as a first-time filmmaker, thinking I had enough and realizing that I didn’t, and then being given the opportunity to go back and get more of what I needed. But one of the blessings of that was because I had cut the scene already, then I got to plan the new shots very carefully. We got to invent moments and grab them.

Henry arrives at the DNC to surprise Alex (but then it’s Nick’s real hair when they get up to the hotel room).

When they’re leaving the gates of Kensington Palace to go to the V&A.

Henry crying in the car after the leak.
wig on the left, nick’s real hair on the right.
Henry sitting at the piano (Alex comes to sit with him and they talk - when Henry is seen playing the piano, it’s Nick’s real hair. Only the conversation is a reshoot/wig).
When Nick went back to do RWRB reshoots, he had just wrapped TIOY. During reshoots, he shot this piano scene with Taylor, where he says the line as Henry: “they loved the idea of me” which is like inception… or something. But just adds to the crazy long invisible string of Nick’s career! 💫 he then of course, goes back to shooting M&G, and we all know about the connection there…

When firstprince go out onto the balcony after their confrontation with The King.

Henry on stage when they win the election.

• Deleted scenes: in BTS photos, Nick is seen in a wig while wearing an apron for what would have been the Thanksgiving scene.
If I missed any, please let me know, and I will update.
I conclude my list with some final favourite moments: Henry’s perfect prince hair 💙

my favourite blondie cupcake moments irl from the rwrb 1 era 💖:

the day we get another one of these BTS videos, and Nick has Henry hair skdkdkdk 🤭

Seeing Nick’s long luscious locks out and about, while he’s been filming He-Man right now, I am begging, BEGGING he continues to take his M&G girlies everywhere he goes. They did insane work with him on that show (Rita 🙂↕️) and are currently working with him again on MOTU.

the prettiest prince 👑 Nick’s hair is beautiful 💛

What I Wish I Knew Before Releasing My Indie Film
Distribution is where most indie filmmakers go to die—or at least to disappear quietly. After the blood, sweat, and credit card debt of production, it’s easy to think your job is done. But distribution is not dessert. It’s not a celebration. It’s the war after the war, and most of us walk into it completely unarmed. You don’t know what you don’t know. Until you do. And by then, it’s usually too…

As someone with a PhD in the bear, how do you think s4 is going to play out??? (storyline wise)

Episode 1 will be the review, unless Chris decides to get all artsy and makes another montage flashback episode. I think this is when we see everyone at home reading the new review, and Natalie on the phone when they're discussing it with Computer at the restaurant. The red sauce photo feels so ominous, could be a flashback, could be them making braciole again, could be for Mikey’s pasta recipe, or Donna’s sunday gravy. Either way I think it will mostly be just them in the kitchen and Syd and Carmy talking out back talking, and then maybe end with their family meal before service.

Episode 2 is written by Catherine who also wrote Ceres, Sundae, and Napkins; so I feel like it might be a more Sydney focused episode again. We see her making a pasta dish. I think she will talk with Shapiro again in this episode and tell him about The Bear's deadline and ask him to let her stay until the money runs out. I think this is also when Nat comes to The Bear with the baby and talks to Carmy. Maybe also the Sweeps focused episode with his wine tasting lessons and baseball. Tina making pasta at home might also play into her working with Sydney on a dish.

Episode 3 is written by Rene Gube, he also wrote Ceres and Bolognese. He also is one of the Ever workers. I think this will be when the Ever crew joins them and we get some more shennanigans of them at the restaurant. Shapiro offered her a job because he tried her scallop dish, which was actually originally derived from her 7 fishes dish rendition. I think Sydney will be trying to learn more about what Shapiro is actually like from the ever crew and figure out why they made aren’t working with him again. The delivery robot plotline will probably also happen at some point and we'll see more of Ebra at the sandwich window.

Episode 4 is written by Ayo and Lionel and directed by Janicza. The episode has onions, remember when they stole Syd's onions in Season 1? I think this episode will focus on her trying out new recipes and looking for inspiration and Marcus also trying to do that. I think this was when they were spotted filming at a grocery store together. So Syd and Marcus maybe collaborating on a dish together, I think Luca will be here too at some point. I think Marcus still hasn't perfected his Violet at this point but will in the next episode. Luca also mentioned his sister, so maybe they'll actually give Sydney a friend that's a girl for once.

Episode 5 written by Karen Joseph Adcock. She wrote Sheridan and Sundae. So probably Sydney focused. The White Violet Dish. Luca will be there this episode, we see him trying the dish and shaking hand with Marcus in a trailer. The green reminds me of the shiso gelee they made together. I have my whole theory on the violet dish. i think it will be part of what is Carmy's epiphany. I think Luca, Marcus, and Carmy all interacting might bring up the Sydney thread the all have. Marcus asked her out, Luca was interested in her, Carmy knows none of this. I think the wheels in Carmy's head might start turning in regards to how he feels about Syd if he gets this new to him information. I think Sydney will also be visiting the location of Shapiro's restaurant at some point so maybe this episode that will happen while they're doing that.

Episode 6 written by Chris. scary. He loves to be in charge of the miserable eps. The blue coating those merengues reminds me of the blue light from the fridge and Claire scenes. I think he will either have his fight talk with her to try and settle things before the wedding in this episode, or it will be dragged in to the very end. I think this will also be the episode that Marcus goes to the movie theater and we might get another segment like the magic filmmaking thing that subtly reveals what is going on. Richie also goes to the theater to watch play at some point in the season. The first episode of the show he was talking about Eva’s recital, so maybe she'll have another dance maybe a midsummer night's dream. That evil notebook of his will be revealing a lot things again, I think someone else will open it and read it. Maybe Carmy, Syd, or Marcus.

Episode 7 the wedding. written by Joana. So you know it’s going to be good. So much happening, everyone talking to everyone. I think it will be a good mix of chaos and happiness. I think it won’t be like Fishes. it will be like the anti fishes. If anyone is fighting it’s Carmy and Claire. I think Richie is a bit nervous and leaning on syd to be his peace. but i think everything will go well. I think Carmy will see Donna and probably run away and panic, but will find her again and speak to her after calming down, probably with Syd's help. They’ve been hiding Syd and Carmy interacting at the wedding cause I just know he’s going to be acting abnormal about her. I think they will have a special moment and I think Sydney will realize she doesn’t want to quit at all.

Episode 8 cooking some beef. This is at the bear. I think this is the alleyway fight day. I think after the wedding Sydney is talking about "the one" cause she wants to tell Shapiro she is staying but doesn’t know how to. I think Carmy will find out about the offer this day and that’s what their fight is about. I think they will end the fight on good terms with her telling him she wants to stay.

Episode 9 Carmy cooks for Donna. He’s going to bring her the box from The Bear basement. We are probably all going to cry talking about Mikey. Eva’s birthday was also hinted at happening after the wedding in S3, so maybe that will happen at some point.

Episode 10 The Bear at night. Unfortunately my gut is telling me they will drag that Claire fight until the end. I don't even think she's mad about what he said in the fridge I think he "lied" about something else, maybe something goes down at the wedding with Syd and Carmy and she sees. I think this is his marathon day clock running out run. We see him at The Bear about to go in the fridge, then running towards Claire's, but he also runs other places around the city. They have 60 days and the wedding is 30 days from where we left off in S3. I think Carmy will settle his last issue and end things with Claire and then go find Sydney and ask her to be his partner for real and sign the agreement. We ended S3 with him at night not making it to Syd's, so maybe now he'll finally make it.
